Glinsce Gaelic for Glinsk is derived from the word Glinn meaning secure.
Glinsk is located 7km/4.3 miles from Carna Village. 29.2km/ 18.2 miles from Clifden Town and 70km/44 miles from Galway City. It is surrounded by mountains, peat bog land and coastal views.
Scenic walks, fishing (shore, sea fishing), Beirtreach Buí Angling competition which is held 25th August every year. These are only but a few activities that can be enjoyed locally.
Also this year the local community coiste Pobail Charna will invite Senater Margarte Craven neé Connolly to spearhead this campaign to return to her Local National School for a "Past Pupil Reunion" and to host the event. The aim will be to invite all of Glinnsce National School to return for a reunion.
