Rosmuck- Ros Muc in Gaelic means Ros= headland/ peninsula and Muc = rounded hills.
Rosmuck is located in the Connemara Gaeltacht area on the west coast of Ireland. Surrounded by scenic views of mountains and the coast. It is located approx. 63.2km/ 39.2miles from Galway City and 52.9km/ 32.9 miles from Clifden Town. Locals are bilingual speaking their native Irish language and English language fluently. It is an area rich in Irish culture, singing, storytelling, music and dance. There is a strong tie with the sea. in this small quiet village.
A site of historical interest in the area is Pearse Cottage which is a national heritage site. This is the cottage that Patrick Pearse (1879-1916) one of the executed leaders of the 1916 uprising lived in while improving his Irish. There are guided tours available on site.
Another site of historiacl interest is located on Tullach an Liagáin the only known age monument to be found in Connemara
