A memorable weekend where past pupils, friends and family came together in Scoil Ghlinnsge, Cashel, Connemara to celebrate the history of the school. People travelled from America, England, Scotland and from all over Ireland. They returned- a little older, wiser and some well travelled.
Scoil Glinnsge looked well basking in the summer sunshine decorated with bunting and flowers. The old school appeared small to many past pupils who once thought it was then big.
Photographs of their school days were on display, tales were told and tears were shed. Past pupils queued up to see their names in the old faded roll books.
Máire Uí Éanaigh, Community Education Facilitator, Galway County VEC, gave a brief analysis of the work and the committement of the community in maintaining and developing Adult Education Courses in the school today and the sense of loyalty that lies with the school.
Presentation was made of a Homemade Quilt to Senator Margaet Craven neé Connolly of Maine, USA, former pupil of Scoil Glinnsge, this quilt was designed and made by the local Patchwork Group, who meets once a week in the school.
The former pupils enjoyed and engaged in re-kindling old friendships and as the old saying goes “ Ar scáth a chéile a mhaireann na daoine”
The organising committee, Eileen Connolly neé Noonan, Máire T. Uí Chuinneagán, Alison Coyne and Joe McDonagh would like to thank the community and all involved for their co-operation, which made the Gathering Event a success.
